The National Parks Service will reimburse parks that stayed open during the 35-day partial government shutdown.

The state of Arizona donated $193,000 to fund services at the Grand Canyon for three weeks, then the park used visitor fees. Those funds are designated for long term upgrades, not basic trash and restroom services.

In Thursday’s announcement, the Parks Service’s Deputy Director did not disclose their plans in the event of another government shutdown, which could happen next week.
