Thousands Attend 63rd Annual VNSA Book Sale In Phoenix

This weekend marked the 63rd annual Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association (VNSA) book sale at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
The event draws thousands of enthusiasts each year, including some from out of state, to peruse and purchase hundreds of thousands of used books, DVDs, audio books and more.
Kathleen Nylen came from Las Vegas to this year's sale.
"I love books," Nylen said, "and this is a great way to get recent books, and help charity.”
Roseann Backlin traveled from Chicago for the sale. She said she and her daughter opened a romance-only bookstore in the past year.
"We’re here to bulk up on our used books for the bookstore," Backlin said. The sale typically draws small business owners who are able to purchase large quantities of items.
Angela Cade is the chairperson of this year’s book sale. She said the low prices on items, and the simple joy of reading, brings customers back year after year.
“People still like to hold a book in their hand," Cade said. "I even have a Nook, but I prefer just reading a book and turning the pages."
Cade said the organizers have already been planning next year's sale. The VNSA collects books year-round from individual donors, as well as groups and businesses.
