The Arizona Department of Transportation has proposed improvements along an 11-mile stretch of Interstate 10 between the Interstate 17 split interchange and the Loop 202 SanTan Freeway that includes the Broadway Curve.

Dustin Krugel is an ADOT spokesperson. He said more than 40 percent of freeway traffic in the Phoenix area travels through the Broadway Curve.

“ADOT is looking at several ways to improve the driving experience traveling through this corridor," Krugel said, "and that could be looking at adding additional travel lanes, improving the access from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.”

Krugel said adding second high occupancy vehicle lanes is also part of the proposed upgrades.

The project is going through an environmental assessment and if approved, Krugel said the project would take place between 2021 and 2024.

ADOT is seeking public input and is hosting an open house meeting on the proposed upgrades on Feb. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rio Salado College Conference Center at 2323 W. 14th St., Tempe.
