The Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife and Animal Legal Defense Fund are suing the Trump administration over the president’s emergency declaration for more money to build a border wall.

The three wildlife activist organizations argue in their lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Washington, D.C., that President Trump’s declaration violates the Constitution and abuses the authority given to him by Congress.

Brian Segee, senior attorney for the Center for Biological Diversity, said constructing more barriers also affects the wildlife around the border, including endangered species.

“Any animal that has populations on both the U.S. and the Mexico side of the border, and that needs to have connectivity between those populations, is impacted by a border wall,” Segee said.

All three groups have previously filed suit against the administration for border wall construction.
