Fronteras Desk Explores Baja

Jill Replogle and Jose Luis Jimenez from froterasdesk.org are about to embark on a reporting trip to Baja. They tell Joanne Faryon what they will be writing about.

Jill Replogle and Jose Luis Jiménez embark today on a reporting trip to Baja, Mexico.

There they will explore the real estate crash in the ocean region between Tijuana and Ensenada and its environmental impact, a legal battle over the surfing spot Scorpion Bay and the water shortage in the wine region Valle de Guadalupe.

These topics have impacts that carry over to Southern California, Jiménez told KPBS Television's "Evening Edition."

"What happens in Baja impacts us here in San Diego," Jiménez said.

Replogle said she hopes the trip will clear up fears about traveling to the Baja region.

"People still have a lot of fear about going down to Mexico," she said. "We want to go to give an update on what’s going on."

You can follow their travels on their blog and on Twitter.
