Grape growers from neighboring Sonora, Mexico, are hosting their annual spring summit in Arizona for the first time this year.

The Mexican Grape Spring Summit is an opportunity for grape growers and distributors to prepare for the coming season each year, said Arely Ferra, administrative manager for the Sonoran Table Grape Growers Association in Hermosillo.

“We are very excited about it," she said. "This is the first year we are having the event in Arizona."

Ferra said the annual pre-season event is usually held south of the border in Hermosillo or San Carlos. But this year, grape growers are hoping to attract a larger crowd and expand their market to new distributors by hosting the event in Tubac, Arizona.

The day-long summit on Thursday, March 21 includes sessions about e-commerce, sales, social responsibility and harvest estimates for the season.
