A small fire broke out Tuesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium, the spring training home to the Los Angeles Angels.

While the field crew was preparing the grounds, a three-wheeler that shapes the pitcher’s mound caught fire. No one was hurt during the incident.

The fire was contained to the dugout without reaching the structure.

“The stadium was doing all the proper precautions,” said Andrea Glass, interim assistant chief at the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department. “They made sure they had all the proper safety equipment in place and did everything appropriately.”

Glass said the stadium has routinely passed all of the safety checks and this incident was more of a “one-off thing” and she has never seen anything like it.

She stressed the importance of having fire extinguishers nearby and knowing how to operate them in emergencies.

The game Tuesday between the Angels and the Colorado Rockies is still expected to start at 6 p.m. as scheduled.
