One of the most congested segments in the Phoenix-area freeway system is being studied for improvements.

The 11-mile portion of the Broadway Curve along Interstate 10 from Interstate 17 and Santan Loop 202 is being considered for expansion in order to alleviate traffic bottlenecks near Sky Harbor Airport.

“Without improvements we’re going to see increased traffic congestion so this potential project addresses some of that future growth we are anticipating in the Valley,” said Dustin Krugel, an Arizona Department of Transportation spokesperson.

To find solutions that will make drivers happy, according to Krugel, the agency needs feedback from the community. The deadline for submitting written comments on ADOT’s web site is Monday, April 1.

ADOT expects to release its plans this summer and construction is expected to begin in 2021.
