Congress Members Arrested In D.C. Immigration Reform Protests

United States Rep. Raul Grijalva was arrested during an immigration reform protest in Washington D.C., on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Southern Arizona Democrat the arrest was intentional, as an act of civil disobedience.

The congressman was speaking at the protest then marched toward the U.S. Capitol and sat down in the middle of the street. Grijalva and at least six other members of Congress were all charged with obstructing traffic. The spokesman said they were trying to compel Congress to pass legislation allowing people living here illegally to apply for U.S. citizenship.

Grijalva is expected to be released Tuesday night.
