PHOENIX - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is questioning the federal government for dropping off migrants at Arizona Greyhound bus stations after they were caught in Texas. Brewer has written to President Barack Obama asking for answers.

Last week KJZZ’s Fronteras Desk and other media outlets reported that a large number of Central American families caught at the border had overwhelmed federal agencies in Texas.

Because of the strain, federal officials flew hundreds of migrants from Texas to be processed in Arizona.

They released some migrant women with children to stay with relatives in the U.S., and dropped them off at the Tucson and Phoenix Greyhound bus stations.

In her letter, Brewer criticized the president for not securing the border. She also expressed concern for the welfare of the migrants in question, many of whom were left at the bus station without food, water or basic necessities.

Citing Arizona’s hot temperature this time of year, Brewer wrote, “The federal government should not shirk its lawful responsibility to care for and properly process these individuals.”

The Obama administration did announce on Monday that it is taking steps to address inadequate shelter space to house migrant children crossing the border alone.
