Air pollution is part of the daily life of people living in Los Angeles, and here in the Phoenix metro area, we’re commonly hit with high pollution advisories that encourage us to stay inside to avoid aggravating health conditions including — but not limited to — asthma.

New findings published in the Journal of the American Medical Association show that better air quality in the Los Angeles area is connected to a reduction in new cases of asthma among children to the tune of about 20%.

Asthma is the most common chronic illness among U.S. kids.

The research was part of the USC Children’s Health Study. The lead author is Erika Garcia, post-doctoral scholar at USC, and she joined The Show to talk about what they found.
