The Phoenix Fire Department says it is getting more calls to rescue hikers as temperatures warm up in the Valley.

Capt. Jake Van Hook says it isn't because temperatures are too hot, more because they’re just right.

"We have more people out enjoying the outdoors when it’s spring break, we have visitors who come out to enjoy, you know, the area and the weather that Phoenix has to offer,” he said.

Van Hook says he sees just as many instances of people being fatigued as he does injured.

He says some of the most important things to consider when hiking is staying hydrated, dressing appropriately, knowing your own physical limits, and hiking with a partner.
