Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey doesn’t want to enact the same new restrictions on guns that Florida Governor Rick Scott signed into law recently.

According to Capitol Media Services, Ducey wants to focus on school resource officers.

Gov. Ducey said several items in the Florida law are off the table in Arizona. Those include a three-day waiting period before someone can leave a gun dealer with a weapon and raising the purchase age for weapons to 21.

"We are looking to keep all of the guns out of the hands of people that should not have them," Ducey said. "I'm not looking to take some of the guns out of law-abiding Americans' hands."

Ducey wants more dollars for school resource officers,' a program run through the Arizona Department of Education that puts police officers who are specially trained onto campuses. The governor sees them as a first line of defense in active shooter situations.

Ducey added that his plan will include additional funds for counselors.

“So that students can get the help they need before a tragedy occurs,” he said.
