Three Arizona firefighters are injured battling a brush fire near Yuma.

One firefighter, with the worst injuries, was flown to the Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix this weekend where he is currently being treated for second and third-degree burns.

Two of the firefighters fell into an ash pit, said Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management spokeswoman Tiffany Davila.

"After that they pulled all of the crews off the fire and only were in patrol status on the fire to monitor it to ensure the safety of the rest of the crews on that fire as well," she said.

Despite late winter weather this season, Davila reminded residents the state is still facing a troubling wildfire season ahead.

She has asked home owners help reduce the danger now and begin fireproofing their properties by creating defensible spaces, beginning with removing debris on or near their homes.
