In a statement Tuesday, Tempe police said they are conducting an investigation to “address the operating condition of the vehicle, driver interaction with the vehicle, and opportunities for the vehicle or driver to detect the pedestrian that was struck.”

After their investigation, Tempe police said they will submit the findings to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for potential charges.

The National Transportation Safety Board and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are also conducting an investigation.
