Arizona Teachers Voting This Week On Whether To Call A Strike
Starting Tuesday, Arizona teachers at schools across the state are voting on whether to strike.
Grassroots group Arizona Educators United is calling the vote after Gov. Doug Ducey reacted to strike threats by announcing a plan for teacher pay raises.
Higher teacher pay is one demand from the group, but leaders are skeptical because the money doesn’t fix public education funding shortfalls. The plan also doesn’t include dedicated raises for support staff.
So, to gauge whether there would be support of a strike, teachers are filling out paper ballots through Thursday. The tally will go to group leadership and a decision will be made Friday.
