Traffic will be limited at Lockett Meadow, a popular fall destination north of Flagstaff, starting this weekend.

Lockett Meadow sits in the Coconino National Forest, flush with deciduous trees. The colorful array of leaves attract big crowds every fall. Forest officials will be limiting the meadow to 100 cars at a time the first few weekends of October.

Brady Smith, with the Coconino National Forest, says the vehicle restriction is needed because space is limited.

“One, there’s not a ton of space up there in the meadow, and two, it’s for safety reasons so cars can get up and down that road safely.”

Smith suggests exploring beyond Lockett Meadow to see the fall colors. He says there are other scenic views throughout the forest and Mogollon Rim.
