The arts community in the Valley has undergone dramatic change in recent years, from the growth of First Fridays, to new murals and to more so-called practical art.

A program making its debut Thursday night on Arizona PBS Channel 8 aims to introduce its viewers to relatively unknown artists from smaller art communities.

The host is Alberto Rio, Arizona’s first poet laureate and an ASU professor. He spoke about "Art in the 48" with The Show.
