Pinal County officials introduced a voter van this month. It is designed to get people to register to vote as well as give them general information on voting.

Pinal Supervisor Anthony Smith explains what type of information will be given. “When are the early ballots available, when’s the last time you can register to vote, when’s the general elections? If you’ve moved in from another location do you have to re-register even if you’ve moved out from one house to another house on the block?” Smith said.

Smith says there will be experts from the election staff on site to help answer these types of questions. The van can also act as an emergency polling site.

“If we happen to have a location that for some reason has shut down, let's say one of the voting locations has a fire and is not able, rather than trying to relocate all the people, the van would pull up and conduct the voting process right on site, it gives us that flexibility," Smith said.

He said the van is scheduled to go to festivals and other popular events. He says if this pilot project is successful, the county will consider expanding it.
