Gov. Doug Ducey has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club Arizona Alliance to expand child care options. This comes as Ducey announced Sunday a two-week closures of all Arizona schools in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Clubs located across the Valley are expanding their business hours to accommodate children of health care workers, first responders and others who are providing essential services during this crisis. The clubs are also open to working families who don't have other childcare options available to them.

Marcia Mintz, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, said they've asked their current members who are able to provide their own child care to do so.

“We are open really to provide a service to our essential workers and our health care employees. So we are all in this together and I am just asking everybody to help and be as supportive as they can so we make sure there’s care available for us all," she said.

Other Boys and Girls clubs across the state are discussing whether they will also expand their business hours to serve families in their regions.

All Arizona schools will be closed from Monday, March 16, to Friday, March 27. If the statewide closures goes beyond that date, Mintz said her organization may partner with local school districts to provide online learning options, especially to students who don't access to computers or WiFi.
