At least 11.6% of Arizona’s workforce filed for unemployment in the last month — a number expected to rise, especially for lower-paid workers. But while the economic effect of the coronavirus may not hit everyone equally, taxpayer aid to workers has bipartisan support.

Findings show support for government stimulus for the coronavirus pandemic crosses party lines. That’s according to a just released report from Pew Research.

“So that was a little surprising in such a partisan era that this is so broadly popular. I think it speaks to how deeply in crisis most Americans see the economy as being,” said Brad Jones, research associate at the center.

Jones says at least 80% of each population segment supported the first stimulus package and 40% said COVID-19 will affect families longer than a year.

From the report: Just 23% of Americans now rate economic conditions in the country as excellent or good, down sharply from 57% at the start of the year. Most now say the economy is in either only fair (38%) or poor (38%) shape. In January, just 9% of Americans said economic conditions were poor.
