How Much Is COVID-19 Slowing Down Arizona Housing Projects?
The National Association of Homebuilders looked at residential permits across the country. Between May 2019 and May 2020, the number of permits to build single family homes in Arizona dropped 10%.
At the local level, Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale had the third-highest number of single family home permits issued (11,009). Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas, had the highest number (16,576) with Dallas-Forth Worth-Arlington, Texas, a close second (16,207).
The Homebuilders Association reported 28 states experienced growth in single-family permits issued between May 2019 and May 2020, while 22 states and the District of Columbia recorded declines.
When it came to the number of multifamily permits issued, the Valley ranked eighth among metro areas (5,750) behind Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Washington (6,024). The market with the most multifamily permits was New York-Newark-Jersey City (14,119).
The Homebuilders Association found 21 states recorded growth in multifamily permits between May 2019 and May 2020, while 29 states and the District of Columbia recorded declines. When combining the number of permits from the top 10 states, they accounted for 64.4% of all permits issued.
