The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office is asking the state attorney general to launch an investigation into possible illegal activity involving voting records.

The Recorder’s Office says voting records with personal information were allegedly posted on the internet. A spokesman for the county Recorder’s Office says a group it identified as the Mandarin GOP is behind the activity.

County Recorder Stephen Richer said anyone requesting those voting records must certify that they will not be posted on the internet.

The information is considered public record, but state law specifically bars users from posting the information, which could include phone numbers and addresses, on the internet.

Violating that law is considered a felony.
