The Yavapai County sheriff has pleaded guilty to operating a boat while under the influence. The sheriff’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit when he tried to dock a boat at Lake Powell.

Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes was sentenced Thursday in federal court to two days of home confinement, a $500 fine and a year of supervised probation. Rhodes also was banned from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area while he's on probation and cannot drink alcohol.

The first-term sheriff said he deeply regretted offering to dock a boat for a friend while visiting Lake Powell in August.

He told a federal magistrate in Flagstaff “I should have said no, and I didn’t, and that's my responsibility."

He made at least three attempts to dock the boat and damaged two other vessels in the process, according to a Coconino County sheriff’s report.
