Right now, a bipartisan group of senators in Washington, D.C. — including Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema — are working to reach a deal on gun legislation. But the latest reports show they’re coming up against some of the usual dividing lines in the gun debate, including background checks.
Jennifer Carlson studies gun violence and politics, and she argues we should be centering survivors in this debate. Carlson is an associate professor in the University of Arizona’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the author of several books about guns in America.
The Show spoke with her to learn about the focus on survivors and the familiar pattern we are seeing play out now.
