Faculty senate votes 'no confidence' in University of Arizona president

The University of Arizona faculty senate recently voted "no confidence" in President Robert Robbins over the handling of an on-campus killing of a professor.

Thomas Meixner was gunned down last October, allegedly by a man with a history of threatening university staff and students.

In a resolution passed Monday, the faculty senate said Robbins failed to take reasonable steps to protect Mexiner and others and was combative toward a faculty-committee report on campus safety.

Sen. Lucy Ziurys was pessimistic the resolution would amount to much.

“Even though I voted in favor of this, I don’t think it’s going to do any good. We’ve done this sort of thing over and over again. It’s like playing a broken record,” said Ziurys.

The state Board of Regents says it fully supports Robbins and the chair encourages the faculty senate to work constructively.
