GOP Congressman Paul Gosar chairs the oversight and investigative arm of the House Committee on Natural Resources.

Gosar has scheduled a field hearing on mining in the Southwest for Friday morning at the Goodyear Recreation Center.

A memo listing key messages to be delivered at the hearing argues that maximizing domestic mineral extraction would be best for national security, the economy and the environment.

But regulation and policy favored by the Biden administration are reportedly forcing U.S. companies to seek minerals abroad.

The memo also accuses Biden of being particularly hostile to hard rock mining, while the Southwest is mostly mined for hard rock minerals such as copper.

The director of the school and mining and mineral resources at the University of Arizona is among the witnesses scheduled to testify.
