Cochise County has the highest concentration of veterans than anywhere else in Arizona, says a GOP congressman.

But Rep. Juan Ciscomani is worried they could face a gap in care after one VA facility in Sierra Vista closed and a replacement has only been approved.

In a letter to a VA under secretary, Ciscomani writes that the VA’s closure of a community access point in Sierra Vista leaves the nearest vet center more than 75 miles away.

The closed Sierra Vista site will reportedly be replaced by an outstation, which will clear the way for a counselor to be permanently assigned there.

Ciscomani wants details on what new veterans benefits will come with the outstation and when it will open.

He also seeks to know how many veterans were using the closed site and how many counseling appointments were taking place there.
