The Glendale City Council is set to revisit an amended development deal during its voting meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The council unanimously passed the deal in June. Glendale City Council members did not ask questions or talk among themselves before they voted to approve an updated development deal in June.

The agreement lets a new owner continue building the massive VAI Resort near State Farm Stadium. The development will include a 5-acre lake and an amusement park.

Glendale says changes made in June to the development deal were clerical.

City Attorney Michael Bailey told council members that having a new property owner was the main purpose. Plus contractual language cleanup, such as restarting the 25-year clock on a property tax break for developer VAI Resorts.

Jordan Greenslade, senior field director for Worker Power Institute, said Glendale residents he has spoken to see the development deal edits as more than clerical.

“To them, it sounds like it’s pretty big changes,” he said.

City staff is recommending the council repeal the deal after enough Glendale residents signed on to an effort to let voters decide its fate.
