The U.S. Departments of Justice, and Housing and Urban Development announced this week that they’re sending about $5.4 million combined to Arizona.

Roughly $3.6 million is a grant from the Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women.

It has a program that requires half of Arizona’s purse go to police and prosecutors so they can strengthen enforcement against those who assault women.

Pots of cash also go to victim services and courts.

Another roughly $1.8 million is from Housing and Urban Development and will help pay rent and support services for Native American veterans in Arizona who are homeless or risk becoming so.

Case management for the HUD funding is handled by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
