If you’re looking for something to do in the Valley this weekend, you might consider “Tempe’s Got Talent” on Sunday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Organizer and Valley-based poet Austin Davis said the free, family-oriented event will be held in multiple spots along Mill Avenue in Tempe between 3rd Street and University Drive.

“We’re hosting a poetry showcase,” said Davis. “We’ll have some featured poets starting off each block. There’s going to be three different stages throughout the day and then at each stage after the featured performer does a little bit of a longer set, maybe like 10-15 minutes, we’re going to have an open mic.”

Davis also said in addition to spoken-word artists, he expects stand-up comics and musicians to take the various stages.

You can find out how to participate on stage by emailing him and also hear a bit more about his homeless advocacy efforts for AZ Hugs as well as the talent show on the latest episode of KJZZ's Word podcast about literature.
