Losing GOP attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh has been ordered to pay more than $42,000 in legal fees to current Attorney General Kris Mayes.

the state Supreme Court ruling comes from Hamadeh’s unsuccessful attempt to get justices to overturn his loss

In Tuesday’s order, Chief Justice Robert Brutinel said the award was appropriate as Hamadeh misrepresented that he sought a final order of relief from a trial judge in Mohave County when he had not done so.

Hamadeh also claimed Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen improperly limited the time to prepare legal arguments.

Jantzen ruled Hamadeh did not prove that he received more votes than Mayes in last November’s election. Hamadeh’s case is going through the normal appeals process after being denied special relief.

He must also pay Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, who is listed as a defendant, $12,921 in his own legal fees.
