The Bureau of Land Management has finalized a plan to develop a recreation area near metro Phoenix and said public input helped shape what the area will be used for.

The project is close to Lost Dutchman State Park, Goldfield Ghost Town and busy trailheads.

The BLM had hoped to cut down on conflicts between different types of users and at one point considered developing an equestrian area.

Chris Wonderly with the BLM says a number of people weighed in on the plan.

"But we did receive input from the public, asking to make it a non-motorized recreation area. And basically the difference would be that it would allow mountain bikes in that area as well. So, it would be a non-motorized area, for equestrian, pedestrian and mountain bikes," Wonderly said.

The area, which covers nearly 1,100 acres, will be temporarily closed to the public when construction begins.
