While the Arizona Diamondbacks face the Texas Rangers in the World Series, Arizona’s largest food bank will join the competition, too.

St. Mary's Food Bank is challenging two Dallas-area charitable organizations in a “Strike Out Hunger” campaign to see which can bring in the most donations in support of its home team.

“We’re hoping that, not only can we capture all the excitement of the Diamondbacks in the World Series, but expose people to the fact that we really need help feeding the hungry of Arizona," said St. Mary's Food Bank Spokesperson, Jerry Brown.

St. Mary's provides about 250,000 meals per day in Arizona. Brown said $1 provides about five meals.

Brown said anyone can root on the Diamondbacks with a donation of any amount through the St. Mary’s website.

“If you’ve enjoyed this run of the Diamondbacks, if you and your family have enjoyed watching it, take a minute out, think of the families that need help putting food on the table, especially close to the holidays, and make your donation in support of the Diamondbacks running the World Series,” Brown said.

St. Mary's already raised $32,000 competing against a Philadelphia food bank while the Diamondbacks faced the Phillies in the National League Championship Series. The goal for the World Series is to bring in $50,000 and, of course, to out-raise Texas.
