A federal judge will not allow the mothers of three biological girls to join the legal fight against two transgender girls who want to participate in school sports.

U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer Zipps says the mothers have not shown their daughters are at risk of any harm if the two prepubescent transgender girls compete on girls sports teams.

Zipps pointed to the fact that the lawsuit does not seek to allow all trans girls to participate in girls sports — only the plaintiffs.

The suit at hand challenges a 2022 state law that prohibits students who were born male from participating on girls sports teams in public schools.

The decision comes as the judge weighs whether to permanently allow the pair to compete in athletics designated for girls. Zipps has let them play while their case is ongoing.
