Phoenix Children’s Hospital cut the ribbon Wednesday on a new campus in Glendale.

According to Phoenix Children’s, the West Valley is now home to 400,000 children and that number is projected to grow to 500,000 by 2030. Phoenix Children’s already opened a new campus in Avondale earlier this year.

Bob Meyer, Phoenix Children’s president and CEO, said the new Arrowhead campus in Glendale was developed in response to growth in the northwest Valley.

“Our parents are very engaged, and one of the things they’ve been asking me for years is, can you guys bring those services that our children need, particularly for children with chronic illnesses, closer to home?" Meyer told KJZZ News.

The new, 45,000-square-foot clinic at the Arrowhead campus will start serving patients Nov. 15 and will offer more than 20 specialties.

“Many of them are what we’ve always done, the higher-end type services, cardiac, hematology, oncology, neurology, neurosurgery. Others are a little bit newer, behavioral health offerings that we’re developing, dermatology,” Meyer said. "We're very mindful of the fact that we're just not building smaller hospitals. These level of services are comparable to what we provide on our main (downtown Phoenix) campus."

In addition to the clinic, the Arrowhead Campus will house a new hospital with an emergency department, surgery center and inpatient beds. That is set to open in summer 2024.
