The Maricopa Association of Governments is developing a climate action plan for Maricopa and Pinal counties.

The idea is to develop measures to reduce pollution and improve air quality in those counties.

MAG Environmental Director Timothy Franquist said they’re hosting several open house events this month at different locations to collect public input.

“We’re staffing it with many members of MAG so we can answer as many questions as possible, but then ultimately what we’re doing is giving a survey as they go through the open house," he said. "You know, what’s the most important thing, project, issue out there related to climate change?”

That feedback will then be handed over to the municipalities.

“So ultimately they have the information from the community on what’s important," Franquist said. "Then what they’ll do in the second phase, that’s where they’ll actually put in a grant application for projects that they would like to do that would reduce greenhouse gasses.”

MAG will host open houses in south Phoenix, Eloy and Mesa this month.
