The Scottsdale Unified School District is offering a new program to help high school students get a head start in the workforce.

The district’s work-based learning program provides internship opportunities, integrating classroom learning with real-world experience through local employers.

Dave White is a career and technical education teacher at Chaparral High School. He said students take two years of classes in a certain subject then get connected with a local business in that field.

“It builds the resume, college applications, it’s something they can do that’s unique that will help them," White said. "They really love it and their employers right now really think it’s a great opportunity for them to get employees there and help train them for future endeavors too.”

The subjects available include sports medicine, film and TV, engineering, business operations and hospitality. White says they plan to add more options in the future.
