Democrat Sarah Liguori appointed to fill Jennifer Longdon's seat in Arizona House
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Democrat Sarah Liguori to fill a vacancy in the Arizona House of Representatives.
Liguori will replace Rep. Jennifer Longdon in Phoenix’s Legislative District 5. Longdon resigned last month to take a private sector job in health-care policy.
Earlier this week, Liguori told Democrats in the district that addressing the affordable housing crisis is her number one priority.
“We’ve reached an unsustainable point where housing demand well surpasses supply, wages have not kept up, and now 50% of Arizona renters face housing insecurity — with that number closer to 60% in our district,” Liguori said.
It is the second time the Board of Supervisors tapped Liguori to fill a legislative vacancy. She was last appointed in 2021 to replace Rep. Aaron Lieberman when he resigned to run for governor.
Liguori said that experience will serve her well.
“At the Legislature, I was quickly able to build trusting relationships on both sides of the aisle while standing steadfast in my progressive values,” Liguori said. “I could call out and kill bills based on culture wars and see success in being able to move policy.”
