The father of a 19-year old accused of aggravated assault in connection with an attack tied to teen violence in the East Valley has been indicted on drug charges.

Court records say Gilbert police found psychedelic mushrooms in the father’s bedroom while executing a home search warrant.

The search warrant was carried out in late January. A grand jury indicted Travis Renner last week. It’s unclear if he has a defense lawyer.

Gilbert police wrote in a probable cause statement that psilocybin was found next to Renner’s passport and a checkbook.

Renner reportedly told police that he’d taken psilocybin before, and the mushrooms belonged to an ex-girlfriend who moved out months ago.

Renner’s son, Kyler, is accused with others of having beaten a man, possibly with brass knuckles, at a parking garage in December 2022.

Kyler Renner also faces drug possession and paraphernalia charges.
