Republican lawmakers consider bill to ban Arizona voting centers
Many Arizona state Republican legislators are supporting a bill which would eliminate voting centers and limit people to voting by precinct.
Republican state Rep. Theresa Martinez is among those who agree with the proposed legislation, which passed in the House.
“We in Pinal County vote by precinct. It has worked, and it is a wonderful way to vote,” she said.
However, Democratic Rep. Nancy Gutierrez disagrees. She read an email from a disabled constituent who said the law would limit accessibility.
“For those of us with disabilities, especially those of us that have disabilities that prevent them from driving or even utilizing public transportation, this bill would further isolate those and marginalize those of us even further by suppressing our votes in the voting booth," she said.
On Monday, the state Senate will hold a hearing on the bill.
