A historic Phoenix home designed by famed architect Al Beadle could be demolished after it was recently purchased.

Located near the base of Camelback Mountain, members of the public are trying to stop the new owners from demolishing the property.

Known as White Gates, the white rectangular home was built in 1954. Now, this midcentury home could be demolished after it was purchased for $1.7 million by an LLC earlier this year. Members of the public are now petitioning the new owner to stop the demolition.

The city of Phoenix’s Historic Preservation Office has a 30-day demolition hold process that applies to residential buildings that have been previously identified as eligible for historic designation, which includes White Gates.

The Historic Preservation Commission will consider designating the house as historic at an upcoming meeting in April.
