The Federal Trade Commission has pitched a rule to forbid so-called junk fees.

A virtual hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. April 24.

Junk fees are unfair or deceptive charges to consumers for a product or service.

The FTC says a proposed rule would require businesses to disclose all mandatory fees when quoting a price to a consumer.

An upcoming virtual hearing is set to feature short presentations by organizations that would be affected by the proposal.

Rising fees were at the heart of a consumer-fraud lawsuit by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office against Cox Communications.

The cable television and internet provider recently agreed to pay roughly $13 million to settle the case.

Officials say a link to the hearing will be posted on the FTC website.
