Hobbs appoints 2 new Arizona Board of Regents members
Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs appointed two new members to the Arizona Board of Regents, the body that governs the state’s public universities.
The Board of Regents is made up of 10 members appointed by the governor, including two student regents. The governor and superintendent of public instruction also sit on the board.
Hobbs appointed Liz Archuleta to represent northern Arizona. Archuleta, president and CEO of the United Way of Northern Arizona, will replace Lyndel Manson, an appointee of former Republican Gov. Doug Ducey whose term has expired.
Archuleta is a former Coconino County Supervisor and past president of the County Supervisors Association.
Hobbs also appointed Northern Arizona University student Jadyn Fisher to replace outgoing student regent Katelyn Rees.
Fisher is studying elementary education at NAU’s honors college. She also held multiple positions with Associated Students of Northern Arizona University.
Both appointees must be confirmed by the Republican-led Arizona Senate.
The governor, who has criticized the regents over their handling of the University of Arizona financial crisis, says the appointments will bring increased transparency and accountability to the board.
