Parts of AZ to switch to summer gasoline blend 2 weeks later than normal

The Environmental Protection Agency will let Arizona delay its use of summer blend gasoline.

The waiver comes as a portion of the pipeline that provides the state gas from California has undergone unforeseen maintenance.

Arizona is normally required to switch to a cleaner-burning gasoline blend from June through September.

Gov. Katie Hobbs, along with members of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, requested the waiver as gas stations could have been without fuel for about a two week period due to the maintenance.

Maricopa and parts of Yavapai and Pinal counties receive their gas from California.

Gas stations will now be able to sell other blends until June 14, two weeks after the usual deadline.

While the summer blend is more eco-friendly, it is also more expensive, meaning gas prices might be delayed in how quickly they hit their peak.
