Hobbs vetoes bill requiring schools provide separate showers for transgender students

Earlier this week, Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a series of bills, including one that would have required schools to have separate showers for transgender students.

Schools would have had to provide a single-occupancy shower room or a shower set aside, something Republican Sen. John Kavanagh argued was a reasonable accommodation.

Hobbs said the bill was an attack on the transgender community.

“All of these issues around transgender students, and trying to go after them, this is coming from politicians who are trying to attack vulnerable people in our communities," Hobbs said.

Hobbs added that Kavanagh knew it was going to get vetoed as she refused to sign a similar bill of his last year.
