Gilbert approves $2.3 million for Police Department after they went over budget
The Gilbert Town Council unanimously voted to approve a request for $2.3 million in contingency funds after the police department went over budget.
Police Chief Michael Soelberg told the council that personnel, overtime and training costs made up the majority of the deficit. In a memo, the chief said much of the overtime was related to teen violence investigations. But there was also a $56,000 mistake.
“When we upgraded to AT&T network, the old systems were not turned off. That was an error and we incurred some additional costs because of that," Soelberg said.
Soelberg said this is at least the third year that police have asked for additional funding close to, or surpassing, $2 million.
