Nationwide, Thanksgiving travel is expected to increase. According to the Triple-A travel forecast, approximately 47 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving.
That is a 0.6 percent increase compared with last year, and the largest number since 2007. Compared with last year, 15 percent more Arizonans are choosing to fly, according to Linda Gorman from Triple-A.
“However, the majority of people are still choosing to drive,” Gorman said. “So I think that also speaks to low gas prices. We have not seen prices this low for the Thanksgiving holiday since 2008.”
In Arizona there is expected to be a 6.4 percent decrease overall in travelers, which goes against the national trend.
