Now it’s five colleges or universities that will be offering classes in downtown Mesa.

Upper Iowa University and the city made the latest announcement Thursday. UIU will begin offering classes in October at the city’s education center and eventually move to a permanent location. In the last year, four other schools have announced plans to begin offering classes in the city.

The schools are part of Mesa’s effort to boost its economic base in five key areas health; care, education, aerospace/aviation, technology and tourism
