Chandler recently approved higher salaries and Mesa city leaders are scheduled to vote Monday night to increase their compensation.

Mesa's Independent Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials has submitted its recommendations to the mayor and council.

They include:

  • Increasing a council member's annual salary from $36,832 to $40,582.
  • Keeping the mayor's salary the same at $73,545.
  • Increaseing the communication allowance for cell phone use by $20 a month to $100 for the mayor and council members.
  • Keeping the vehicle allowance the same for the mayor at $550 a month and $350 a month for council members.

If the Mesa Council approves the Commission's recomendations, the increases would take effect in 30 days.

Recently, the Chandler City Council approved a $6,500 raise to bring the mayor's total annual salary to $55,500 and a $3,500 raise to bring each council member's annual salary to $32,500. The increases take effect in January 2017.
